TNAU Admissions 2024 – UG Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications – Academic Stream
Candidates should have passed ALL the subjects in Academic stream of the Qualifying Examination with 10+2 years of schooling under Board of Higher Secondary Education of Government of Tamil Nadu / Central Board of Secondary Education / Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations / other State Government Boards / other International Boards that are recognized are eligible (based on the subject eligibility) for the following degree programs:

2. B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture – Tamil Medium
3. B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture
4. B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture – Tamil Medium
5. B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry
6. B.Sc. (Hons.) Food, Nutrition and Dietetics
7. B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering)
8. B.Sc. (Hons.) Sericulture

Ranking Procedure
The calculation of aggregate is based on the marks obtained by the candidate and not the grades. The candidate has to upload the mark sheet (in percentage) given by the appropriate authority. Grace marks awarded will not be counted for calculating aggregate mark and for ranking.
Example:
If a candidate has studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and obtained the marks as follows, the aggregate mark shall be calculated as:

If the qualifying examination is other than Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary (HSC) Examination, normalization procedure as ordered in the Tamil Nadu Admission in Professional Educational Institutions Act, 2006 shall be adopted for computing minimum eligibility and ranking.

Determination of the inter merit
In cases where more than one student has got the same aggregate marks in the general rank list, the inter se merit among such students shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below
- Marks out of 50 in Mathematics. If a student has not studied Mathematics, marks out of 50 in Biology or (Botany + Zoology)
- Marks out of 50 in Physics
- Marks out of 50 in Chemistry
- Date of Birth – Eldest first
Higher Secondary Course (HSC) – Vocational Stream
Five per cent of seats of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture (English & Tamil medium), B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture (English & Tamil medium), B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry and B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) at AEC&RI, Kumulur programs in TNAU Constituent and affiliated colleges (B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture (English medium) and Horticulture (English medium)), are exclusively reserved for candidates who have qualified under Vocational Stream and therefore they shall not be considered under general quota and any other special reservation categories. In this category both vertical and horizontal reservation policy will be adopted. The students who have studied the following Vocational group during their XII standard are only eligible for the degree programs indicated below:
- Candidates who passed Higher Secondary Course (HSC) under Vocational stream and studied Biology and Agricultural Practices as vocational subjects including theory and practical are eligible to apply for the degrees, viz., B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry and B.Tech.(Agricultural Engineering)
- Candidates who passed Higher Secondary Course (HSC) under Vocational stream and studied Biology, Agricultural Science – Theory, Agricultural Science – Practical and Computer Technology as vocational subjects are eligible to apply for the degrees, viz., B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry and B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering).
NOTE – Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Course (HSC) under Vocational stream from other boards / other states are NOT ELIGIBLE for admission in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Number of Attempts to Pass
The maximum number of permissible attempts to pass in the qualifying examination is
as follows:
- Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Castes-Arunthathiyars/ Scheduled Tribes: Three
- All other Communities: Two
Age Limit
Candidates should not have completed the age of 21 years on the first day of July of the admission year (i.e. as on 01.07.2024). However, for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Caste-Arunthathiyars (SCA) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) there is NO AGE LIMIT. Five years of age relaxation will be given for differently abled candidates.
Nativity
Candidates of Tamil Nadu Nativity only will be considered for general counseling. However, candidates who have studied 10th , 11th & 12th Standards in Tamil Nadu will be considered for admission, on producing proof of having studied 10th, 11th & 12th Standards in Schools located at Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu candidates who have not studied 10th, 11th & 12th standards in Tamil Nadu should produce the Certificate of Permanent Residence in Tamil Nadu in the prescribed proforma (Appendix VI) issued by the competent authorities. Candidates possessing community certificate issued by Government of Tamil Nadu need not submit Appendix VI.
Discontinuing from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU)
A student of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University who discontinues an undergraduate degree program is not eligible for admission again to any undergraduate programs of this University. Further if the candidate discontinues after the completion of first year first semester, he/she must pay DISCONTINUATION FEE of Rupees TWO LAKHS (Rupees 2,00,000/- Only) to TNAU. This condition is applicable for all the students of constituent colleges and the students joined in affiliated colleges through TNAU counseling quota. This condition is not applicable for the students admitted under the Management Quota in Affiliated colleges.
Special Reservations
Differently Abled – Five percent of the seats are reserved for differently abled candidates. The applicant
should fulfill all qualifying requirements. However, the maximum age limit is relaxed to 26years.
Ex-servicemen – One seat for each of the degree program in all constituent colleges is reserved for Son and Daughter of Ex-servicemen. This quota is not available for self-supporting courses.
Eminent Sportsperson – One seat for each of the degree program in all constituent colleges are reserved for eminent sportsperson. This quota is not available for self-supporting courses.
State Government School Quota
Seven and half per cent (7.5%) of seats on “preferential basis” are reserved for students from State government schools in admission to all undergraduate courses both in constituent and affiliated colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. These students (academic and vocational stream) should have studied from Class 6 to 12 in the State government schools in Tamil Nadu. Candidates who seek admission under this quota should furnish his/her EMIS number at the time of filling online application. The eligibility of admission under this quota will be verified based on the EMIS number. Therefore, TNAU will not hold responsibility for the mistakes made in the EMIS by the candidates at the time of application filling. The candidates who do not have an EMIS number should obtain and upload a bona fide certificate in the prescribed format provided in Annexure VIII.
