Horticultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore
The Faculty of Horticulture was established during the year 1971 with the formation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The undergraduate programme B.Sc. (Horticulture) was started during the year 1972 and later in 1990, the Programme was shifted to the Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam. B.Tech. (Horticulture) was offered during the year 2002 to 2017.
The B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture again started at this college during 2018 onwards. Now B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture is being offered from this college. This institutes functions with five departments to teach Horticulture courses to students of B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture offered at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore and also to the students various undergraduate programmes at TNAU, Coimbatore.
For the benefit of Tamil medium students, the B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture degree programme in Tamil Medium is started during 2021 by Tamil Nadu Government
At the time of formation of the University during 1971, the Departments of Fruit Crops, Flower Crops and Spices and Plantation Crops were established. Earlier, a common PG and Ph.D. programme was offered and later four separate PG and Ph.D. programmes are being offered from each department.
The Horticultural College and Research Institute at Coimbatore is situated within the premises of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The Institute’s mandates are Education, Research and Extension. With respect to education, courses on crop improvement, crop production and post harvest management pertaining to fruits, vegetables, spices, plantations, floriculture and landscape gardening, medicinal and aromatic crops are taught in a comprehensive manner for various Post Graduate and Doctoral students.

Educational Qualifications – Academic Stream
Candidates should have passed ALL the subjects in Academic stream of the Qualifying Examination with 10+2 years of schooling under Board of Higher Secondary Education of Government of Tamil Nadu / Central Board of Secondary Education / Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations / other State Government Boards / other International Boards.

Horticulture – Course Objective
Four year programme with eight semesters a well designed curriculum in current concept and covers a wide range of courses with equal distribution of horticulture and allied subjects. Expose the young buds in various fields of horticulture.
